It was almost midnight when the knock came. At first, I thought I imagined it. Who even knocks at that hour? When I opened the door, there he was tall, messy hair, holding a phone with 2% battery left.
"Hi… uh, sorry, can I borrow your charger? Mine just died.”
I should’ve said no. But I didn’t.
The charger was plugged in, but he didn’t leave.
Instead, he leaned on the wall, looking around like he owned the place.
“Nice room,” he said.
I rolled my eyes. “It’s a charger, not a hotel stay.”
He laughed — that annoying, carefree laugh.
And somehow, I knew this was only the beginning.
Just when I thought he was finally leaving, his phone buzzed.
I wasn’t going to eavesdrop, but his voice got louder.
“Don’t worry… they’ll never find out.”
He froze when he saw me staring.
“Everything okay?” I asked.
That smile again — only this time, it didn’t feel harmless.
