Africa’s smartphone market is hotter than ever, and the fight for the top spot is serious. Here’s what the latest reports are saying 👇

✅ Tecno & Infinix (Transsion Group)

Still the kings of Africa. In Nigeria alone, Tecno holds about 23%, Infinix ~21%. Together, that’s almost half of the entire market. Across Africa, Transsion brands ship nearly 1 out of every 2 smartphones. Their strength? Affordable pricing, strong battery life, and distribution even in small towns.

    🔥 Xiaomi

The fast riser. While not yet number one, Xiaomi is growing over 30% year-on-year in Africa. They now hold around 13-14% market share continent-wide, and in Nigeria about 7%. Their secret weapon? Specs that look premium (big battery, strong cameras, sleek design) but still cost less than Samsung or Apple.

    💡 The big picture:

Transsion (Tecno/Infinix) = dominance, affordability, local focus.

Xiaomi = growth, “value for money,” slowly eating into the mid-range.

Samsung & Apple? Still strong in premium, but not the real volume drivers here.

    👉 Question for you:

If you had ₦200k–₦400k to spend today, would you go for Tecno/Infinix (trusted & everywhere) or Xiaomi (fast-growing with premium vibes)?
