We tweet “One Nigeria” in the morning…
…but vote based on tribe by night.
Despite all our education and exposure, tribalism still quietly decides who we trust, vote for, marry, or even help.
Why does it still win?
👇🏾 Let’s talk.

Nigeria has over 250 ethnic groups, yet national identity remains weak.
We’re more Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Efik or Tiv… than we are Nigerian.
And politicians know this.
They weaponize it.
Divide us with it.
And we keep falling for it.

Many Nigerians genuinely believe:
👉🏾 “My tribe deserves the presidency.”
👉🏾 “I can’t trust someone from that tribe.”
👉🏾 “They’ll always prioritize their people.”
So we choose loyalty to tribe—over competence, vision, or truth.

Our trauma fuels this.
Decades of marginalization, war, and inequality have made ethnic loyalty a survival instinct.
We’re scared that if “they” win, “we” lose.
But this fear keeps us stuck—tribal thinking in a national crisis.

The worst part?
The elite don’t care about tribe.
They intermarry, share luxury estates, and co-steal from us.
It’s us, the masses, that carry tribal hatred like a badge of honor.
We suffer, yet we defend our oppressors because they speak our language.

Imagine a Nigeria where:
🟢 The North votes for competence.
🟢 The South votes for unity.
🟢 The East votes for integrity.
🟢 The West votes for progress.
That’s the country we need. But it starts by unlearning tribal superiority.

Tribalism wins because we let it.
Because we still define “us” vs “them” by ethnicity.
Until we stop, Nigeria will remain a divided house—easy to loot, easy to manipulate.
