u wouldn't believe what happened when I tried this—life changing

Okay so… I literally never post stuff like this, but what happened to me last weekend was WILD and honestly, I feel like I have to share it. Buckle up.

So a few weeks ago, I saw this random Reddit comment about “forest bathing” — yeah, I know, it sounds like some fairy magic thing. But I was stressed out from work, overcaffeinated, and running on 3 hours of sleep and vibes. The comment basically said: "Go into the woods alone for a few hours. No phone. Just you, nature, and silence. It’ll rewire your brain."

I thought, whatever. Can’t hurt to try.

So I drove out to this nature preserve like 40 minutes from my apartment. Left my phone locked in the glove compartment (immediately panicked about that, but stayed strong). Took a backpack with water, a granola bar, and a journal I hadn’t used since college.

The first 20 minutes were uneventful. Trees. Birds. Bugs. My brain was still racing with emails I hadn’t answered and that one cringy thing I said in 2017.

    Then, something shifted.

I was sitting on this mossy rock by a stream, just… sitting. And suddenly, I realized how loud my brain had been for YEARS. Not just noisy—screaming. And out there? In total silence? It was like my thoughts got embarrassed and quieted down.

Here’s the part that still gives me goosebumps:

I started writing in that journal. Not just notes or to-do lists. I wrote this weird, vivid memory from when I was six—something I hadn’t thought about in decades. Then another. And another. It was like opening a hidden box in my brain. I ended up writing for over two hours straight. Full-on childhood memories, dreams I forgot I had, even a poem (??).

But the real kicker? When I got back to my car and finally turned my phone on… I had a text from my estranged sister. We hadn’t spoken in 5 years after a messy fight. The text just said: “Hey. I’ve been thinking about you. Can we talk?”

I don’t know if it was just coincidence. Or if something in the universe shifted when I unplugged. But it felt like something deep cracked open. Since then, I’ve been going out to that same spot once a week. My anxiety’s been down, I’m sleeping better, and I’m talking to my sister again.

So yeah. You wouldn’t believe what happened when I tried this. And I’m telling you now: go to the woods. Sit with yourself. It’s not just trees out there.

It might change your life too.
